Though his voice is slightly higher than you may be used to, and half of his face is covered by his long hair, and he just doesn't have that same attitude he had in The Matrix, I'm sure Keanu would've been a lot more popular a lot sooner if everyone had paid attention to this movie. To me, this movie is one of the best examples that Keanu can indeed act. And he does it well.
Keanu plays Chris, a senior highschool student with no real talents except for music (piano and guitar). His mother and father appear to have abandoned him at home, focusing on busy careers. His best friend David is his bandmate and music teacher, has far more musical talent and is accepted to a high profile college, and has a family who loves him. Before anyone can know David is having difficulty with live, he falls from a cliff and leaves Chris with the suicide letter.
Needless to say this is very upsetting for all friends and family. Despite depressing undertones, this movie is fantastic. Another severe 80's-style warning is in effect. Though the music isn't bad at all. The first time I found this movie in the video store, I thought the photo of Keanu was actually a girl. LOL! His hair is cool though.
